You're angered often,
taking your frustrations out on her,
hands around her throat, holding her wrists,
blacking her eyes,
with your heavy fists.
Telling her how much you love her,
before your hand meets her flesh,
daring her to call the cops,
only as a test.
Watching her crawl across the floor,
frantic and scared,
reaching out for it in desperation,
she was unaware,
that you disconnected her service once again,
she finally notices, meeting your gaze with her stare.
Tears pelting down her bruised face,
and you laugh in victory,
saying "I'm the man and you're to submit to me."
She wraps her arms around herself,
preparing for your next blow,
you grab her by her hair, and whisper in her ear.
"You ain't ever gonna leave me, so learn to love being here"
she cracks a half smile, running her hand along your face,
saying baby I love you too much,
to even think of leaving this place.
You look into her glossy eyes and fury consumes you,
you're mad because you don't believe she's true to you.
So you proceed to beat her until she can't stand,
claiming ownership of someone who can't quite fight back,
and you call yourself a man,
well I call you a coward, and she'll kill you in your sleep when she can....
***This isn't about anyone in particular, just a piece I wrote in honor of violence awareness. Violence happens all around us, one voice can help prevent it. Will that voice be yours?*
