"crush"
  by Theory

i remember waaay back when
the happiest thing a friend's friend's friend
could say to you was
"psst...psst..ey..my friend's gotta crush on you"

gotta crush on you my baby...

then that crush grows to "like-like"
then that grew to "puppy love"
but when the pups grow up
all that seems to turn to
imagery and theories
that you-dont-love-me-you-just-love-the-idea-of-me
kinda chemistry
so now the term "crush" finally makes sense to me
thats how they leave you,
but its only later that you see

gotta crush on you....my baby

i guess thats why we don't use that word
outa context when we get grown
but thats when we find new words to call are own
ones like "cut buddies" but wen those are done
your cut down a notch or 2

or "friends with benefits"
until what benefitted you
as well as that friend become stale to you

you got the ones that "stay in pocket"
til the pockets get too fat and
when they get picked the one
left broke is still just you

and then there's the "round the way" type but
they usually gets passed around they way to a few members of your crew

and i noticed how baby momma's and daddy's
never stay "my man" or "my girl"
its like saying a human seed brings
relationship devastaion to the world

"wifey's" and "hubby's" never marry
it seems there's no more meaning behind the names we carry
ask me to choose i'll pick the "crush" every time

gotta crush on you...

there's no simpler way to say
"i wanna be in your heart, cuz i feel you in mine
but now that i'm older, if you're not feeling me
i'll be just fine
but me not telling you
has got me going out of my mind
so before i loose my nerve
i just wanna say...

i gotta crush on you...my baby"

so very deep. that adolescent crush we grew to think was such a major development shows its true colors later on. those last three stanzas summed it all up. titles are nothing more than a lable. complex feelings can't be simplified. just for the simple minded. good work.
