"Don't call me Nigger"
  by Modia

Don’t call me nigger,
Because that’s not my name,
And don’t call me black
Because to me it’s all the same.

I’m not an “African American”
I was born in the United States
And I’m not a “Negro”
So don’t judge me by the color of my face.

Am I not worthy of being called an American?
After all I was born in this land
Firm like a tree
My roots are where I stand.
I am an American
So don’t call me nigger.

I am not colored
No one took a marker or pen to my skin
And just simply shaded me in.
I was fabricated just the same
As any other man.
So don’t call me nigger.

No I won’t show my negritude
But I’ll be glad to show you
A lot of attitude
If you approach me real rude
Expect to be showed no gratitude.
So don’t call me nigger.

I’m speaking on those who consider the
Race of my people minority,
But refuse to make the needs and wants
Of my people priority.

If you label me, you negate me.
Don’t minimize me appreciate me.
So don’t call me nigger.

I refuse to let you vilify my name
By calling me something
That made my forefathers ashamed.
But then again I only have my people to blame.
Because we address each other rudely
And now we live in vain.
But still nigger is not my name.

So I raise my fist in the air
And I will say
That I made my contributions to society today.
And I did it, not as an African American,
A nigger, or a black.
I did it as a citizen of the United States
A citizen by the name of Modia.
So don’t call me nigger.

I love this poem. especially the don't call me a nigger. Personally, I don't don't mind being called African-American or black, because i consider myself a proud black man. But I can't stand being called the N-word. especially by a black person, because to me it's even more degrading coming from us. Great job.

Deep poem. I was having a conversation about this. We were born here, so wouldn't we be American? It's like everything has to have labels, have to be a group, you know, so it can be identified. There is so much stigma involving our people, and it's causing so much confusing. I am glad that I just so happened to find this write. You did a wonderful job on this, 10 stars.
