A poem inspired by Louie Ortiz and written for my future baby boy whom I will love with every breath and ounce of blood within my body. Can’t wait for you to become my reality.
To my boy…
This will be forever our time
Our moment in the sun to shine together
Cuz when we were apart
Loneliness consumed my heart; filled my thoughts
I strived to see a side of me I could never reach
Ready to learn, hoping you’re eager to teach
Lead by example of living your lessons
You are my blessing
My strength, my drive, why I achieve
My support, my most humbling experience, why I still dream
So I can give you the world cuz you’ll mean it to me
So when you dance with Angels, I’ll hear them sing
Watching as you dream lightly on Angel’s wings
Cuz for so long I’ve tried
For so long I’ve failed and felt cursed
But you’ll be my first
First fulfillment of hunger, quenching of thirst
I’ll watch in awe as you grow
And declare you my champion; a hero
As you make me a legend; we’ll equal bliss
So black daddies on Father’s Day is no longer a myth
In this world I was once so eager to abandon
You’ll make staying worth it
Give me a purpose; joy after my pain
Parting the clouds, sparing the rain
You’ll be nothing short of perfection
Mastering the balance of thug appeal, intelligence
Strength, honesty, independence, caring, and affection
Bigger, stronger, faster, smarter, better in every way
Can’t wait till that day comes
Cuz everything I wish I would’ve been
Will come to pass in you
My miracle man
You will be my completion…
