"And that is the CBS Evening News. I'm Katie Couric. Thanks for watching and have a good night."
While that pathetic theme music they play at the end of the broadcast,
My mind goes silent.
Very, very, silent.
You said that five more soldiers were killed in Iraq today,
That Paris Hilton has reportedly found God,
That there is a summer camp for people with down syndrome,
But you have forgotten about what is happening miles away.
Your ridiculous microphones and your crazed cameras have turned away from the devestating destruction of life in a place called Darfur.
Where rebels hold and carry their rifles like they are the Bible or the Qu'ran,
Proud to see that bloodshed is bubbling in their bottles of hell,
Proud to steal the virginities of girls not even yet twelve.
No cameras.
No news.
Nothing.
This is why the world doesn't know...
That a citizen went against what the supposed law is,
And his lips were severely sliced,
That innocent children are kidnapped in the heat of the night,
Forced to kill others and eat human brains or die themselves,
That this is a prison worse than Angola and Attica conglomerated.
The government is a reincarnation of Hitler,
And refugee camps are not like refugee camps...They are concentration camps where the elderly get weary and the children go malnourished.
The boundaries have been closed.
Back in 1964,
It was Dr. King who said "When you are degenerating a sense of nobodyness...then you will understand why it is difficult to wait."
WE UNDERSTAND NOW.
WE CANNOT WAIT ANY LONGER.
IT IS TIME FOR THE REVOLUTION!
400,000 are dead,
400,000 stories never to be written.
They are killing the poetry that is physical,
That can be seen,
And no one is writing it down but me,
Because I feel the pain and I want the change!
Bring back the methods from the black power movement to promote a new type of militancy-Poetic militancy,
Becauswe we cannot wait!
This is an hourglass waiting to turn over.
We cannot wait!
We have to preach to the government from Hell's dicatorship with words,
With every poetry book from every poet.
We cannot wait!
This is for those Sudanese who are not alive today,
For the children not yet born that will become the future.
We cannot wait!
We cannot wait!
We cannot wait!
Because they are no cameras,
No news,
No nothing.
No journalists,
No articles,
No nothing.
No poetry,
No intervention,
No nothing!
This is why the world doesn't know.
If you out this on tv,Will society see?
Will they really see,
Or say "That's sad" and get back to their families at the dinner table?
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord thise words will change the world.
If I shall die before I wake,
I pray the Lord that these words will be read and aired from every source of media.
CBS, NBC, BET, ABC, MTV, PBS, BBC!
Everything!
Because in that place,
There are no cameras,
No reporters,
No nothing.
We cannot wait.
The clock is overdue,
Still going tick-tick until the battery emasculates.
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. Tick...
