"Here I Am"
  by Drew Down

Afraid to sleep for dreams of a better place.
Begging thoughts and better things sitting in my face.
Prayers out to God to please take this hate away.
Begging him to please let it fade away.
I pray to God that he would forgive my sins.
I hit the block and then I brought them back again.
What kind of man would put himself through these things?
The kind of man who’s contemplating everything.
I watched a man pass away just yesterday.
And I watched this man walk by me just to day.
And here I am dreaming about this again.
Until I dream a me who is fitting in.
Confusal bliss of a life to be told.
Whose is it to put the country on hold?
That’s the spoils of a life of insanity.
Even though the fight was for humanity.
No peace.

I’ve been living my life.
(I’ve been living my life like I want to.)
On these streets.
(Never doing more than I have to.)
Heart in hand.
(No more hiding.)
Here I am.
(Here I am.)

I’ve been living my life.
(I’ve been living my life like I want to.)
On two feet.
(Never to judge the world around you.)
Here I stand.
(It’s my fight.)
Here I am.
(So here I am.)

Disturbed as the shaky ground that I walk on.
Too strong to let go, so I fight on.
I pray to God that the fighting just cease.
No more battles, no more wars, just peace.
It be in vain, he can’t hear my prayer.
The sins too thick, it won’t make it up there.
Even still I try to make it through.
If I’ll die, then that’s what I’ll do.
Afraid, I sleep with my eyes wide open.
Afraid to commit to the words that I’ve broken.
Outside I’m smiling.
Inside I’m crying.
I know this pain, I brought it on myself.
Don’t know the aim, I’m seeking out help.
But help comes to a man without sin.
Not to a man who’s been where I’ve been.
And that’s real.

I’ve been living my life.
(I’ve been living my life like I want to.)
On these streets.
(Never doing more than I have to.)
Heart in hand.
(No more hiding.)
Here I am.
(Here I am.)

I’ve been living my life.
(I’ve been living my life like I want to.)
On two feet.
(Never to judge the world around you.)
Here I stand.
(It’s my fight.)
Here I am.
(So here I am.)

very powerful. so much emotion and contemplation in this write... i had to read it several times to completely absorb what you were saying... some real eloquent lines, and lines that just grabbed me and forced me to re-read again.
