"Herstory"
  by nilla bean

Tell a story, she said
Of pride and necessity
Sensuality and unjustice
Tell a story , she said
Of abortions, molestation at the hands of my fathers
And love, intimacy and
Deep base riddims
Tell a story, she said
Of marriages of convenience
Massaging interludes and
Stripping to make ends meet
I was damned good
Was it wrong to enjoy it?
Tell a story, she said
Of blond, blue eyed lovers
Loc-ed and youthful
Professional and not
White and submissive
Black and aggressive
But not thorough enough
Tell a story, she said
Of a lifetime lived in real-time
And when she dances,
The illegal act is in the sway of her hips
And when she dances
She tells her story
