I once was a African you know.
My pride was mighty high.
And my confidence was anything but low.
Well one day as I was walking to school
I remembered what my grandmother use to say " one who has freedom will succeed and since you have yours you should do nothing under your best."
Well right at that thought something had struck me,
I turned around but I regret I did so because
A white man had captured me.
And as I walked in chains I thought about what my wise grandmother use to tell me and I said to myself
Freedom is all I need to succeed.
I once was a slave you know.
Working on the plantation day by day,
Getting beat blow by blow.
And on days when I felt there was know survival
I'd go and get my bible.
Because I knew one day id learn to read it.
Then one day I told my momma she laughed and said
"Know hows a slave like you gone learn to read."
I told her,
Freedom is all I need to succeed.
I once was a black panther you know.
Fighting for what I believed in and embracing my African fro.
I did what I had to do and learned what i had to know.
And all of these things helped me to become a better person,
And helped me to grow.
And who am I you ask?
Well I am the African, the slave, and the Black Panther or if that’s too hard to understand
I'll just keep it simple
I am black.
