Its for me to say that I am an African American MALE
One that is not being chased by the law, one that is not up for sale
I am but what society make me to be
No I'm not all doom and gloom, I don't have the stare of dishonesty
You can't look at me and say " Thats another black man ready to be put in jail"
Sitting there stare-crazed with no one to pay my bail
I can clearly say I am but a statistic
I am one of the few that thinks realistic
I am not any drug addicted man on the streets
Who is yet striving to stay up beat
Not one society has to keep a watch on because of anothers doing
Not another ghetto person in the banking yelling, being picky and choosey
I refuse to be yet another face to face with a judge because of a gun charge
Or one that sell stuff illegal from his garage
One that is listed dead becuase of a gang related incident
One the died drinking and driving because of an automobile accident
Yet another one with problems in a single parent home
Another that is an outcase facing the world alone
I am but another stastic
One of the choosen few that thinks realistic
I refuse to let another piece of paper that another wrote determine my future
To print my face and my diolouge "Put em' up or I'll shot ya"
Society will NOT be my downfall in this thing we call life
They pressure me with nothing but pain, gulit and strife
I wil be one of the few that raises the bar above the rim
I will let my light shine bright like the North Star and never let it go dim
I will grow up to be the best that I can be instead of going balistic
Because I am but another statistic
