I KNOW HOW IT FEELS,.. I'VE BEEN THERE BEFORE

Ever meet someone for which you've had a longing yearn
Only to discover a time later those feelings weren't being returned
Or if they were returned, not in like fashion
Leaving you disappointed over unrecipricated passion
You imagine and fantasize of situations and scenarios
Wondering, if this then that, come very fast, or very slow
Tourturing yourself about whether of not to express,...
The feelings that over again, in your mind, you profess
Ever put your pride on the line and put aside personal appeal
And let it be known to a certain someone exactly how you feel
Hoping that maybe, just maybe, in the back of your mind
The other person would exact those feelings in kind
But by the mandates of destiny in a future impossible to see
What you were hoping for was just not meant to be
And you accept destiny's ruling, though it leaves you sore
I know how it feels,... I've been there before

Ever meet someone of the likes of which you've had to take a second glance
Because at first sight, whether on purpose or by chance
Their appearance and comeliness, was up to now, inconceivable
That anyone could be that beautiful was almost unbelievable
So much so, that infatuation sets in, brazen and bold
Infecting your being like the common cold
And at times, for reasons unexplained, you find
That this person is constanly on your mind
Your mind flooded with images of what could be
With a verbal exchange of "Will you marry me"
Or ot the very least, what to say to break the ice
Finding the words to entertain, enlighten, and entice
And when you finally damn it all and come clean
Meaning what you say, and saying what you mean
Only to realize that there is no chance for amor
I know how it feels,... I've been there before

Ever meet someone, and before the minute was gone
You saw something in that someone that absolutely turned you on
That sparked a yearning in your soul, and amorous feelings afresh
Manifesting itself outwardly as longings of the flesh
Where ever that person was, you wanted to be in the same place
Hoping for another chance meeting, just to see their face
And at times, when in their company you were in
All you could do is wear a silly grin
Ever work up enough nerver, at a moment when,...
You would say the things you rehearsed in your mind again and again
So you don't sound silly, or embarass yourself on sight
Only to find that the words still didn't come out right
When it was all said and done, you would disappointingly,...
Hear the words "I don't feel for you what you feel for me"
Which would leave you bothered, and cause you to pick up your pride from off of the floor
I know how it feels,... I've been there before

Ever had a crush, been infatuated, or involved in similar scenarios
Only to be hit with the reality of how the other person felt, and the way things go
To feel, not so much betrayed, but embarrased and wounded
You've let your gaurd down, was hit with rejection of sorts, and then you soon fled
Or if you're experience enough, read the hints and the signs
That tells you of impendings disappointment of the emotional kind
And you leave, with your pride whole, or intact, at best
But disappointed you are, and bothered none-the-less
Ever been on an emotional high
That when you came crashing down, it made you cry
Because the object of your affection, in your attempts to impress
Let the air out of loves balloon, and left you distressed
If you're like most people, then you've experienced that which doesn't feel good
To be turned down by someone you like, but the truth is, you should,...
Never give up and keep picking yourself up off of the floor
Believe me,... I know how it feels,... I've been there before
