Most people probably opened this thinkin it’d be about how I write
But this is more important…cuz I’m talking bout life
Life…yo, its really elementary
If only we stayed true to our grade school lessons, and viewed the rest as supplementary
Then, imma show you how much betta this world could really be
Cuz you see,
We as adults get so caught up in gossip and rumors and worryin bout what other people do
That we let that shit consume us and forget to just mind OUR p’s and q’s
Ayo think about it, cuz it’s true
And as kids it seemed like everyday our imagination just grew
And flew to different moons in different galaxies
And if someone dared to tease and doubt our abilities,
Sure we’d duke it out, but there was never no casualties’
We weren’t quick to run and get a gun to shoot someone
Unless it was cops and robbers…
But that just proves that even as toddlers
We knew right from wrong by tryin to go after the bad guys
By any means necessary…

You see life, its elementary
We learned that sharing is caring
And correct me if I’m wrong, but it didn’t show a lack of brawn
If we shared our crayons
So in different colors shit can be drawn
Regardless if we had a box of 8, 16 or even 64
And if the bloods, crips, latin kings and the rest remembered that…
Then what the fuck would they be fighting for?
And talkin bout colorin…
We were unconfined and wasn’t scared to go outside the lines
Man, I wish I could go back to those times
Cuz I would have never predicted
That we would allow our minds to become so restricted
By imaginary limits in which society has inflicted
And wait, I’m not talkin bout everyone goin and start wildin’ doin shit to get you convicted
But not for nothing…
If we just remember how much we hated missing recess or chillin after school because of detention
Then maybe more people would obey the laws and stop getting arrested
I mean yo…this write is making ME see clearly that this shit is really elementary
How many times have you acted on a whim and then looked back on that shit regrettably?
Now ask yourself…
Would that have happened if first you ensured that you dotted your i’s and crossed your t’s?
Yo we need to take a quick trip back
For, if Bush remembered standing and sayin the daily Pledge of Allegiance to OUR flag,
Maybe he’d be more concerned bout getting shit together here instead of over in Iraq
Fuck the rest of ya’ll, but I’m ready to pack ...go back
since kids has the innocence to just look at people as people without biases
And when the little things was shit we’d cherish like having a first kiss
And we weren’t concerned with trying to be a player
And even though they say as you get wiser as you get older
I frequently see on my tv that I’m not even smarter than a fifth grader

But yo seriously listen,
We try to take on the world unprepared carrying nothing in our backpack
And obesity is taking over the country cuz we forget to schedule times for a healthy snack
And we don’t carry a ruler cuz we care not for our true success to be measured
But yet we’ll try to figure out everyone’s real angle without a protractor

Life is just a big test and as a kid we would always try to do our best
Nevertheless now we’ll sit without our #2 pencils
Dooming ourselves to be unable to show off our full potential
And I’m realizing that if we lose site of our fundamentals getting older can be scary
Cuz at the end of the day,
this is all just elementary.
