""Let's Get Biblical" (A teacher's perspective)"

You say don’t mix Church and State
But thanks to a REVELATION
I left a JOB in a system
Where, thanks to the
Selfish ACTS of would-be JUDGES
Acting like KINGS,
There was an EXODUS of students
Leaving in large groups of NUMBERS,
Students full of LAMENTATIONS and Low on the PROVERBS
Necessary to get them through the day, where a
SONG of SOLOMON was filled with
Unemployment, inopportunity, illegitimate children
And a bunch of words beginning with a prefix meaning “not”
As in not you, not him, not that brotha, not that sista,
not employable, not enjoyable,
not today, not ever—and these are the kids
You refer to when you say
Feed the multitude mental food
Despite pitiful attitude, altitude and gratitude
You say feed the multitude and the sad irony is that
They ain’t even hungry or thirsty for what I have!
You say don’t mix Church and State
But it was you who got biblical
At the GENESIS of the school year
By asking me to take your
Academic loaves and fishes
Filled with hopes and wishes
And reach the masses In 6 different classes
To split the sea of red tape and pass my students through
To the banks of the next grade
Ignoring all of my previous CHRONICLES
Detailing failing grades and gpa’s less than 1.0 but uh-oh! It’s my fault.
Understand though, my staff was made of flesh, not wood,
And flesh is weak.
So Pharaoh left his MARK on three generations
Now FIRST, SECOND and THIRD John are overdoing the underachievement
Plaguing our people
And now No Child’s Left Behind
Is found without Apple Bottoms, Dickies, Girbaud
And other aliases for the 2K Pharaoh
You say don’t mix Church and State
But you expect miracles to come on a daily basis
While I accept them as God delivers an oasis:
In His own time
Which may not coincide with your
Standardized Test Schedule…
