"Livin' in a Flat World (w/audio)"
  by nywizdom
  - This Poem is a response to the poem The World Is FLAT! by nywizdom

I previously versed bout how the world is flat
And that continental drift has been reversed
And at first, I burst into joy about all the possibilities
That our technology has now made into a reality
Yet now I’m immersed in the notion that this gift is also a curse

This world wide web has created a bed of opportunity for lovers spread throughout globe to lay with each other
But instead of one's eyes reflecting back into the other's
Each set of eyes reflects upon a screen
As they are hyper to see the next few lines of hypertext
Which routinely finds a way to careen into the im box on your page

See, we in an age where many get the chance to actually engage with their partners physically very slim to none
So we are left to play out desires in our imagination
Which is cool for me if its only occasionally done but
What fun is it if when you really want to or need to reach out and touch some one…
And you can't.

See, we readily will chat, type and text til our fingers fall off
increasing the time that we talk…but decreasing the time that we speak
Cuz we living in a world of such a close disconnection
That we always in communication
But oftentimes without vocalization
And I'm just sayin’….I’m perplexed bout how we'd rather text then to pick up the phone and dial
When in all the while, we pressing an infinite number of more buttons then if we just hit 7 or 10 digits
What is this shit?

We have spun ourselves a web of dangerous places
Where there is now a book for your face,
Allowing young girls to disgrace themselves with nearly nude photos
To chase down love by embracing a screen name
So when a dude claims to be into you
Your agree to meet and let him get into you
Not really knowing if any of the shit dude spoke online was ever true
And when deed is done there is nothing left for you to do,
cuz he jumped back into his spaceship to disappear into a different galaxy in cyberspace
never to be seen or heard from again…
and all you ever knew him by was BlackAdonis7

So now to find out what's really up,
The smarter bunch now rely on google lookups of their myspace hookups
To try and determine if stories given was the truth or just lines cooked up
Cuz every site has imposters posting pics of fake people
While others lie about their age to have sex with youth which is illegal

But yet in still…
we get so concerned bout this cyber shit,
that we constantly loggin in to check comments on our new pics
and if we aint' home…shit check it from your cell phone
And if a commenter ranks high enuff on the attrictiveness scale…
From your keypad, hit em off with a quick email.

Even coworkers are sending each other personal emails from only 3 cubicles down
Keepin their face emotionless and relying on symbols to create a smile or frown
With their colon, hyphen, and parenthesis :-( :-)
And there's this whole new online language which exists
Like lol, brb, smh and so much other shit that WTF I'm falling behind pace

And there ain't shit that I can do bout that,
Except sit and watch how the world became flat and shrunk bringing us closer together
Which seemed like it was for the better
Cuz I can become close to people that I never imagined in my wildest dreams
But while we put our emotions, hearts, minds, souls out for the world to see
Our sense of touch is goin to waste as our bodies are hidden away behind the scenes
In our little safe haven, nestled away in back of our flat computer screens.

-Real Talk, this is me just kinda playin sorta a devil's advocate to myself, and ranting about negative shit that has evolved into the norm in our "flat" world. But at the end of the day...I'm an online addict! lol-

this is an interesting out of the box type write. Finding someone online that seems to have everything you need, but is hundreds of miles away. Kind of makes you wonder. If the internet were to be the devils creation, are we messing with what God had planned? Maybe falling inlove with another persons soulmate?
