As I sit here the sunshine rest upon my face
I think of how often I’m judge because of my race
My black skin is often seen as inferior
They see my exterior
And forget what lies in my interior
A spiritual being—worth more than my outward clay
I speak through my eyes cause I have more than words to say
There’s a God in the sky who sees more than my skin
Matter factly all he sees is the soul within
Told I couldn’t go to heaven cause I bore the curse of cain
And how I how I come from a family with the wrong last name
Only a God like mine can write a vision for me
And sign it—this is your destiny
I’m clear about this you see
I have a right to stand on the promise he made to me
Beloved of God—tried in the fire but now I stand as pure gold
For my awesomeness others can behold
No longer looking back got my sight on things ahead
Instead of starving through the Word of God I’m fed
My heart is made up—Got a steady beat..
Sowing good seeds—so goodness I can reap
In this skin I’ll flourish in this life
And refused to buckle under a little strife
They can continue to judge me because of my outer shell
But look closely I have a greater story to tell.
