"My lucky day"
  by Jez

I hear a gun shot
But dont turn around
It is but a sign of our times

I look at my family
Laughing, singing and having a ball
I join them and start to enjoy the day

I dont know why
Something has drawn my eye
I look towards the trees
I look towards the scrub
I cant seem to look away

I turn back to my family
Laughing at their joy
But I feel the urge to turn again

I see the glint of something in the trees
I stare for what seems like eternity
It does not reflect again
I hold my breath
Smile at my family
And wait for the shot

It does not come
I wish I could thank the man
Who had a consience
And made this my lucky day.

Wow. I love that you wrote both perspectives of the sniper and the would-be victim. Really brings a deeper meaning to the poems by reading both sides of the story.
