"Obama"
  by bumpy

Now I've come to realize that my president shares a quality with me that none of the previous presidents have.
He is black.

His being black to me is significant for one reason, and one reason alone. The fact that he is black doesn't make the difference of why I voted for him.

If he had been blue, green, orange or yellow, I would have STILL cast my vote for Mr. Obama.

The reason I chose to speak on this topic is because there has been alot of controversy over this election. Some say its simply because he's black; other's say its because the "white man" doesn't want a black man to get ahead in life. Other's didn't even WATCH the election or follow it. All they know is that now, we've got a black man in office. HOORAY FOR BLACK PEOPLE. WRONG! Hooray for ALL PEOPLE. Of every RACE. Every creed, background, age and mindset. See, Obama stands for CHANGE. SO can we as a people just CHANGE? Can we as a people decide to put aside our petty conflicts, our predeterminations about race or social status? Can we decide to meet the challenge of developing a state of order for our lives; our communities? Can we agree to see this new president as something more than just "our first black president"? Can we see him as a man who is intelligent, diligent, articulate and who cares for this country's well being? Can we all just realize that what started as years of enslavement and torture is OVER, that we have come out of enslavement and we are all afforded the same opportunity to be whatever it is that we want to be? Ignorance is not neccesarily the way to address the new presidency, and I don't believe in incompetent behaivor especially concerning something so delicate. To belittle another person for their choices or to act as if we are better now that we have a black president is not much better than white people buying us from Africa and selling us, seperating us from our families, raping our women and girls. It is not much more that stererotypical behaivor for us to behave so foolishly, and to act so ignorant.

So please, do some research on Obama. Find out what it is that makes him a great man DESPITE the fact that he is black.

Peace && Love GS.

Let HIM be judged by the content and commitment of HIS character; not the color of HIS skin. If the world can see this so clearly and cherish his willingness to lead. Why can't America have the fortitude to do the same? Thanks for writing this and expressing the truth seen by your eyes.

I want to address Kenya in C: he is interracial and was raised by his 'white relatives' yes thats true indeed- but in our nation's history- they tend to call you the race that you must portray physically- so to most of America and the world- He is seen has a black man because of his features and skin tone. NOW to your poem- I am glad that you wrote this because I heard so many people say they were going to vote for President-Elect Obama because he was Black and I was like, "how ignorant is that?...
