"One Breath"
  by nywizdom

(INHALES DEEEEEEPLY)

Open your eyes wide and realize that we can no longer disguise our society’s demise.
For our lives are falling down a slippery slope with almost no hope of getting back up because...
At this moment somewhere a school fight just ended with a kid busting slugs
While someone just found themselves newly addicted to drugs
And an innocent young girl just got herself raped
While a deadbeat father just escaped a child support case
A thirteen year old girl just gave birth alone in a world so cold
And a politician should be in prison for the bogus promise they just sold
This is the world in which my life is enrolled so I can only ask what’s next?
When I can guarantee that somewhere out there this all JUST occurred within this
One Breath.

(breathes deeply, drops mic, and walks away…)
