If I write erotica or a love poem
its all in your head
speak on something deep and necessary
and it hardly gets read
drop some lines about love
And everyone is in awe
Write about some conspiracy
And the words might as well be
written in Japanese
Since its so hard to get these words read
maybe I'll stop writing books
and record CD's instead
If I just told you the truth
and not write it down for posterity
Spit it in tune to some magnificient beat
would it be that much easier
to believe in me?
If it means that I can get you to listen
I'll get in the booth
and these words I'll start spittin'
Because these words aren't written
just to make poetry
They're meant to open your mind
So the truth you can know with me
I write them down so they are preserved with time
Most don't seem to respond when they're
written in lines
But... when I simply... speak them
People seem to listen
No disrespect to spoken word intended
I'm just recognizing that the medium
Has more people's attention
And I just want to get the truth to you
So if I have to put down the pen
and pick up the mic
Stop writing books to turn on the light
Then that's something I'll gladly do
But please don't make me have to...
