Soft as a lilting buttercup
is yellow
brazenly warm and subtly seductive
a concoction of sweetness and heat like big mama's hotwater cornbread on the inside
intensely sulfuric and liquid smooth like the yolk of an egg
the circumference of which mimics the sun
bursting with lava-like oils and gases
yellow is thick and acrid like ice cold buttermilk
or acidic and tainted, forever lingering in the darkest piss-scented alleys
It is the sound a a child singing his first note
the flutter of a hummingbird's wings
the undertone of bright oranges and reds
and sundresses swishing across redbone hips and thighs
yellow is the scent of honeysuckle floating in the breeze
a Sunday morning church hat with feathers and matching slingbacks
talcum powder , family dinners and white-gloved ushers
the depletion of color in between black and silver rinses
the sallow of sickness and death
