"Searching"
  by nilla bean

Pieces of a dream deferred
what happens once the lines are blurred
between reality, fiction, fantasy and just plain lies
we search for shit that we know we'll never find

the perfect man or woman
the perfect house and home
the greatest career ever to be had
the desire for nothing to ever go wrong
the most well-behaved and healthiest children
the most serious swag and sexual prowess
the highest intellect and flair for fashion
this is how we allow the world to devour us

Pieces of a dream deferred
shatter into millions of shards
laying about in wait to splice the flesh
open wounds left unguarded, without wards
open and fresh, like a leeching, a blood letting
ceremoniously presented to the masses

Chasing rainbows, unicorns and mythologies
living life behind soiled, rose-colored glasses
