"THATS WHAT OUR TWENTIES ARE FOR"

THATS WHAT OUR TWENTIES ARE FOR
Growing up as innocent, learining about life and its ways
We learn lessons to be applied to the rest of our days
Responding to the enviroment around us
Interacting with different ones who surround us
Separating the fantisaical from the common sensical
We reach a point in our lives to where we feel invincable
And believe that we can conquer the world and make it our own little ball
Based on our current reality; armed with the decption of knowing it all
Until of course we come up against something that knocks us on our seat
And makes us taste the oversalted bitterness of defeat
that leaves us roasting in the anger of our youthfulness
And our invicible mindset shrinks down to uselesness
Growing up into adulthood with habbits that we can't shake
Making mistake, after mistake, after mistake, after mistake
With the wisdom of the old people making our ears sore
But I guess thats what our twenties are for
The eyes of our youthfulness don't look towards perseverance
They look towards superficial comeliness and an outward appearance
Expending more of our efforts that we should
In obtaining that which looks, and makes us feel good
Misguided by the feelings that blur and dims our sights
Only to be betrayed by what we thought felt right
We come to generalize the feelings of our blunder
And attempt to erect an umbrella to put like experiences under
Going with the winds of our passions blown
Sowing the wild oats we feel need to be sown
Believing at one point or another, thatwe're above-
the hurt that comes in coufusing sex with love
Caught in a loop that we can't figure out
A cycle the old people warned us about
To love and to loose, lessons for a time we ignore
But gues what, thats what our twenties are for
With the lenses of tunnel vision, we see life in polarized light
With very littel learned in the way of hind-sight
Not bearing in mind consequences, complex and slippery
Not yet having learned to look at life, in periphery
We schedule our lives to an appointment book
And make rigid our goals, to which we look
To see the future peasantly and goodly
Seeing our lives as we percieve they sould be
We don't prepare for turbulence or a disappointing rush
Figuring disappointment just won't happen to us
We soon learn that life doesn't meet many of our demands
And find that all doesn't go according to plan
We find disappoinment and hearache a humbling experience
And learn to look at life in its true appearance
By living life one day at a time, and not a moment more
For these lessons learned, thats what our twenties are for
The wisdom of the old people deserve their accolades
But many of us don't realize this till we're halfway thru our second decade
Convincing ourselves, for a time as such
That the old people and their advice are simply out of touch
Not realizing right away, in our limited point of view
That the old people were once young, and in their twenties too
That they had loves, and plans, and dreams
And went thru the same difficulties and extremes
They have learned to see the future, by the lessons of the past
Which contributes to their wisdom and their life, at long last
Armed with the mental map of the minefield of mistakes
They impart to us advice, upon our descretion we choose to take
Advice that tells us to turn instead of going straight
That keeps us from getting frustrated and irate
That keeps is from destroying ourselves, disintergrating at the core
Making that knowledge concrete in our minds, thats what our twenties are for
