"The Creation Of Poetry"
  by Rissa14
  - This Poem is a response to the poem Poetic Bloodline (w/audio) by nywizdom

Saturday, January 26, 2008::

I hear the loudest echo of voices refusing to be silenced playing in traffic
Traffic of poetic tradition and competition
Bringing new light to this reality that we're living in
So I decided to jump in the middle of this road
and also let God penetrate my skin
His needle, yes, like a pen
Injecting the greatest qualities of poets that he already took and those still living
From the page to the stage, I'm feeling things on paper and words spoken
Can't slit these wrists again, can't waste the blood running through my veins that He drowned me in
Past poets preaching made sure that we had it in us, too
Just as babies, God decided that we'd all be poets, made sure our flow was true
But only kept the best to bring this art to light
And so then, with ink, tears, blood, emotions and paper we began to fight
Now I'm able to see even more of the truth,
and I must say that nywisdom, you're quite right

Thank you
Saul Williams, Black Ice, Dahlak Braithewaite, Poetri
You gave a new definition to it all, helped me flow free
and begin to understand that I just got to write for me
Learned that words always mean everything, but more then that when I'm speaking poetically
God gave you the power to empower me
Once in a past lifetime, my other half told the greatest poet to save some energy
Cause there would be times when I needed inspiration to help me write this poetry

And here I am, here we are
Once again beginning to recreate the poetic dynasties that they've left behind
Rebuilding the revolution and movement that to us was once blind
Keeping intact out realities cause soon enough in time we'll find
that these creative genes are all just in the mind
Let's underline the important things,
put in bold, italicize that the disguise society has given us are unnecessary
We'll refuse to wear masks to blast us to where they think we're supposed to be at
Realize that we've promised God and our past poets something
Promised that we're going to keep the poetic bloodline going
Place every poet bold enough to stand on this poetic timeline
Teach everyone else that once we write, we're signing our names perfectly
in pen. in ink
And then again..we'll write for everything IMpossible

Because look again
Look at us, the youth, writing like this
This generation is beginning to have no hesitation
I'm fourteen years old and I know that this poem won't be my final destination
God continues to inject me with the blood of poets that came before me
And a little of my poetic blood is still inspiring others
Think that the youth is impossible, think we don't listen and learn
But we're just sitting and patiently waiting out turn
We want to be heard and we write to be free
Just look at people like me, Leslie, Terrena, and Prince
The youth with a voice loud enough to speak volumes
We speak truth
Living and breathing poetic breath, we're proof
Life, God and poets gave us something to live for
A reason to stop living lifeless and bored
Some may think that we only worry about video games and the Internet
But we have something more important
Writing is just our way to connect
So deserve respect
Cause we dream big and we also have the blood of Maya Angelo, Langston Hughes, Suheir Hammad running through our veins

So please, continue shocking me with the deepness that people bring
Let out all the emotions, the happiness, sadness, excitement and the pain
I know that the tears still sting in the eyes of those lost poets
and that from the grayness of the clouds and darkness of the sky, comes the rain
Raindrops fall from their eyes, and hit us
Mixing with he blood that has began to flow inside of us
We found these words to be our destiny
Here it is, once again, another story, another lesson, another voice inspired
And through this voice, through everyone, through you and me
We have once again..created
Poetry
