with the latest fashion trend,
appetite for the "it factor" that won't bend...
And though I contend
a person's true value lies within,
an insane amount of money is spent
keeping up with an image no deeper than skin--
Letting you see
the notion of what I feel compelled to be...
that I am that flyest chick
Miss over confident
overcompensating
for the degrading
spoken tones
from the ghosts
of those kids who told her she ain't worth a shit....
And it wouldn't be so sick
if I wasn't in debt for it
but after years it's an addiction
and I can't quite get over it....

...who truly never thought
she was that pretty at all...
a heart of gold
and far from shallow
but her self worth they ruthlessly stole...
when she was just a sweet kid
yearning only to fit in....
and be appreciated for her character "wins"....

But instead
their rejection
only gave birth to THIS....

How 'bout now....

Will you EVER see me?



You know
when I started this poem
I thought my obsession was clothing...
but perhaps
the fact of the matter is
my obsession is merely
outrunning the self-loathing......
