There was a jester I did know
Whose stature grew as flowers grow
In the garden all alone
dreaming he was on the throne
In the village where he dwelt
He fell upon the earth and knelt
He prayed for rain to show the way
To the palace he did stray
But he could not get inside
For the moat was deep and wide
And God had sent him lots of rain
To fill a moat that could not drain
So he juggled at the edge
Making there a solemn pledge
One day he would enter in
Then his new life would begin
And all the time for rain he prayed
And at the moat he stopped and stayed
And in prayer he talked to Him
But never asked God how to swim
In the garden, not the same
His flowers cursed his lust for fame
And they drowned from all the rain
That he invoked In Jesus' name
Want of kingship and the queen
Maintained the now familiar scene
Of a jester waiting there
And for his garden not a care
I have heard he waits there still
Now convinced it is God's will
If you see him, shake the hand
Of the saddest jester in the land
