"The Jester"
  by Bud Edward

There was a jester I did know
Whose stature grew as flowers grow

In the garden all alone
dreaming he was on the throne

In the village where he dwelt
He fell upon the earth and knelt

He prayed for rain to show the way
To the palace he did stray

But he could not get inside
For the moat was deep and wide

And God had sent him lots of rain
To fill a moat that could not drain

So he juggled at the edge
Making there a solemn pledge

One day he would enter in
Then his new life would begin

And all the time for rain he prayed
And at the moat he stopped and stayed

And in prayer he talked to Him
But never asked God how to swim

In the garden, not the same
His flowers cursed his lust for fame

And they drowned from all the rain
That he invoked In Jesus' name

Want of kingship and the queen
Maintained the now familiar scene

Of a jester waiting there
And for his garden not a care

I have heard he waits there still
Now convinced it is God's will

If you see him, shake the hand
Of the saddest jester in the land

*sighs* goodness how much this speaks to me right now...it's like...you wrote exACTLY how i feel today...like i just want to burst out in tears...i don't think these people truly underSTAND what it is you are saying...they are merely reading the words and not FEELING them...fear not Bud for i see what you speak!!! you are inclined to classical literature so of COURSE they won't get the wordplay :-) this is simply...excruitiatingly beautiful *sighs* speaks me so loudly right now!

wow.. a sad jester.. an oxymoron that makes so much sense when it comes to this poem.. i loved this.. "and they down from all the rain that he invoked in Jesus' name" wow... im in awe of this..nicely written

And thus begin the parables of Bud! Well written. I really like this story and I can relate to this. I think many people could. There is so much truth in this. Glad to see you writing regularly.

You took the safe route in this poem and it makes for a nice, neat presentation on the surface, but as a write it comes across as a bit juvenile to me. I like the character of this storyline, but I honestly got a little lost within the story. You said "He prayed for rain to show the way...". Why is that? I was thrown behind that part. If you could make it a bit clearer I could appreciate when you said the flowers cursed him for all of the rain he prayed for... and eventually were drowned in thos...
