"The Secret Meeting"
  by Pete Alma

The Secret Meeting

Ladies and Gents, welcome to the occasion
convened in 1619
when we first arrived
through sweat, blood, and tear
and jeered by our captors
ignorant of our plan
divided families yet we stand, and we stood
proud to be… yet they hated our resiliency
callous hands and blistered feet
cracked voices that echoed songs so sweet
we begged for mercy and God gave us grace
our souls were thirsty, but we finished the race
Yes, the meeting is nothing new
we failed to leave clues for those that would expose
our mo…tis the season for change
some think it strange that we are here
my dear, we are America
we just didn’t tell you
The meeting is in full session
we had to learn the lesson
as the virus lays undetected
we infected this country’s blood
and it’s too late, so don’t hate
Thanks Jesse; the comments served me well
They viewed you as an enemy
and you’re viewed as mines
and they took my side
ingenious, thanks for leaving my penis
Yep, the meeting was kept in obscurity
and only a few can see the light
the greatest contest came from Rev. Wright
but we’re all right
so let’s stay in prayer and always stand
but to those that oppose
we say, “yes we can”

I'm really loving the concept here, and I'm glad I could witness such a profound meeting

Look at you...giving a history lesson while you inspire. This flow was off the chain. Thanks Alma!

Bravo Pete! I'm loving this piece all over. You had me going with Jesse and Rev. Wright but just like you said "we're all right" and "Yes we can"...you are a clever, clever man...Sir Poet.
