He turned the key and he unlocked the door
He walked in the same way he always had before
He put his bags down and went into the room..
but what he found was too much for his mind to consume.
The room was empty, and no one was home
He fell to his knees, and he cried alone.
Her side of the dresser, was empty and bare
He looked in her closet, and nothing was there
Her smell still lingered, sweet in the air
While still on his knees, he said a prayer
He cried to God,
“PLEASE just bring her back-
I’m sorry Lord,
I never meant to treat her like that.
I guess I always figured,
She’d stick around
But I came home
And look what I found-
She’s packed all her stuff,
She took all her things-
She won’t even answer her phone
when it rings.
Please, God, I’m begging
Just bring her back…
I SWEAR--
I never meant to hurt her like that”
On the other side of town,
With tears on her cheeks
and her head in her hands,
She too spoke to God,
hoping HE understands.
“please God, give me strength
I need it right now.
I finally left him,
Now help me somehow.
He’ll call again,
And again
Till I answer the phone
Then he’ll be crying--
Begging me to come home.
I love him so much
He’s still in my heart
But I need to be happy.
I need a new start,
The past few years
have been so filled with pain
with lies and hurt,
while I waited in vain.
Waited for him
To finally change.
But he still acted
like love was a sport
and all his hyped up promises
always fell short.
My heart is hurting,
I know I will miss him
I just pray you give me strength,
Not to give in.
And I ask that you also
Watch over him
He’s not a bad person,
He’s just not for me
But give him your blessing
So he too, can be happy.”
She lifted her face
as she dried her cheeks
She forced the first smile
that she’d felt in weeks.
She has no regrets
She harbors no bad feeling--
Her love for him was eternal
But –
it was time to start healing.
And she was gone
Just like that
She was gone.
