"Understanding Hip-Hop"
  by G.A.

off the top of my head,
not premeditated
but anyways i love hip-hop
how it is on the rise
with producers and hot blazin beats
but hip-hop is on the decline
with the weak lyricist
serious no, just money hungry
just to get they dirty laundry cleaned out
on new materilistic shit
nothin wrong wit that
but where is the real art
nobody has that real heart anymore
i understand now why everyone
has a problem with hip-hop
no lie i didn't understand
but every since goin deeper inside of poetry
gettin seriously involved with it
i've grown with a good lyrical mindset
i sat and listen to my "favorite artists"
and i started thinkin like what the fuck
Gucci Mane Metaphorically cannot comprehend
or blend his lyrics into a real beat
hottest rapper around when it comes with beats
i see he gets them in
but he whack at it when he speaks

man hip-hop is gettin weak
i see "New Starving Artists"
i laugh as i listen and say you garbage
Soulja Boy wannabes with the dance hit
that shit is cool i guess for club hits
but worldwide on the streets it aint shit
i know for me it aint shit
i got rhythm but not in my feet
i got it in my head as i nod to the beat and lyrics
that grabs your attention
like Scorpion "Get Over Here"
with the Sub-Zero flow
freeze you with amazement
that got you screamin like Liu Kang
like: "Oooooo what did he just say"
but now its like oh ok he said that
man thats shitty put me on the beat
and i'll kill it, murder it,
ima rapist cuz ima fuck the game over
whether they like it or not
bring the crew too
yes im recruiting
any one wanna join the team
feel free to speak and be heard
and become the lyrical arsonist

speakin out for the real artists
that are in the game
they are now underground
i can name a few but i knows it more out
but thats whole another discussion
to talk about but i'll get to it later
but uuntil then
i learned now why everyone are against hip-hop
i see why they say "Hip-Hop Is Dead"
because 2pac, Biggie, Big L, Big Pun
are all gone, but if i forgot someone
please mention it to me

But now i understand
why everyone says "Hip-Hop is Dead"
there are no standouts to me
and is declining, on the decline
same lines bein spit but with a lil twist
give me a chance at it
ima make it big too
just like them!

I feel ya G.A. Me and Soul were discussing this issue not too long ago. Hip Hop is on life support and needs to be restored. People have forgotten what made hip hop what it is. You still have artists like Lupe, Common, Talib Kwelli trying to stay alive but in an industry where sex, beats, and catchy hooks sale. They go unrecognized. I feel thats where underground music and poetry come into play. I feel that they are the catalyst that will restore hip hop once enough ears listen. In the mean time...

I agree with you one hundred percent. Hip Hop has def. lost its way. This is poem is in homage to the fallen soldiers (and songs) of the generation that never was...
