"(Video) The Evolution of the Revolution" by nywizdom
Video of my performance of this piece at a slam last nite...check it out
THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED
THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED
The revolution… will not... be televised
But in a desperate attempt to tell your eyes,
it will probably be internet broadcasted and blasted on places like myspace and facebook and other such sites
Cuz long gone are the days of midnight horse rides by folks like Paul Revere,
warning the masses by lanterns of enemy plans…1 if by land, 2 if by sea
Now you lucky to see movements disguised in between myspace bulletins promoting various club dates…Just imagine
Thursday night after work party first 100 ladies get free admission
Friday social rally for Sean Bell
Saturday night reggae bashment, free drinks until 12:30
And lets face it, majority of the minority would rather try to hit up an open bar, then to try to get them trigger-happy cops behind bars
But that's just an example of how our minds are set
And this is just a guess, but I'm willing to bet if we were to now advertise a modern day Boston Tea Party, that most people would probably think it's a jump off
wonderin' how many bags of lipton do they have to bring with them to be able to get in and shake they ass for free
And it's a shame that social networking and dating websites get more page hits and clicks than cnn.com daily, when I'm pretty damn sure that your friends pics are updated less frequently than the news going on
therefore many don't know what's going on in the next presidential race, leaving many to vote for the next president off of race
So if I'm supporting Obama, it's because I support his political positions
Not because of the color of skin, cuz I can give a shit about his amount of melanin or his famous affiliations
But it seems that too many ignore the issues until it's supported by a celebrity
So I'm wondering if in '04 if Diddy ain't make shirts sayin rock the vote, how many less people in our generation would have even gave a second thought about the polls
And I heard Salt and Pepa hit up a rally for the Jena 6 on their reality tv show,
but in reality would they have if it wasn't for there tv show? Iunno.
But you know what, I retract my statement
The revolution MAY be televised…if its perhaps done on reality tv
Monday nights at 10, "Who want to be the next revolutionary activist"
Where the show will consists of people competing with no known credentials and lack even the potential of changing anything
And the winner won't be the one that can make influential statements, it'll be the one who can bring in the most ratings
So we'll end up having to entrust our leadership to someone like Flavor Flav, and,
Even though he once helped move the hip hop nation preaching "Fight the Power"
Now we have a generation that are just Souja Boy's…
And yes…I mean YOUUUUUUU
But I ain't gonna front, I can get down with the superman move
Cuz I'll step into my poetry booth, come out with my metaphorical cape, and try to revolutionize the world…one word at a time.
The general of my syllables sending them to attack through these mics hoping that we can influence change in peoples minds
so fuck it, the revolution will probably be better off NOT being televised., cuz I'd much prefer that shit to be mic'ed
....dope write. the ending killed it. but i agree more people pay attention to myspace than to the news. its a sad world we live in and it's not getting any better. i love your insight. 10**
a twist and i absolutely love it!- even though this is the 3rd time *tilts head* so positive i commented *shrugs* but anyways...i'm not even going to say much except preaching and much much respect! *smiles fondly*
PFFFT..PACKAGE THIS TAPE UP AND SEND IT 2 WASHINGTON!!! LOL...MAN EVERY POINT U MADE WAS VALID!!! I'M GLAD SOMEONE IS USING THEIR VOICE 2 BE HEARD 4 A POSITIVE REASON! DOPE ASS WRITE/PERFORMANCE
